Faucet Replacement...Easy Right?

We tore up the main bathroom exactly a year ago and it's still in the same condition. We rigged a temporary shower in the basement, but it hasn't been the most user friendly setup because the utility sink faucet was old and my work around was very, very leaky. We've managed to go with it, but the time had come to fix it.

I had the day off and the basement already had water in it from all the rain,

so I figured I'd replace the faucet and get a better shower...

I'm not the best at plumbing, but this project went surprisingly well. No leaks either! Yay!

Now to get the bathroom finished!

Yike!

I'm being controlled all the way to my fingertips
Becoming insanely numb
Inside my head I'm breaking down
Where am I now and why?
The light before my eyes disappears
Permanent sleep, even death

Tempting complaints
Those scarlet lips

The pounding of my numbing heart becomes disrupted
Stain yourself by drowning in that blood

Eyes facing never-ending lands
What do they reflect?
Please, please hold me with those hands

As the hands of the clock overlap
I contemplate my inner ways
I touch my hands to my chest and wish, with love
That I will never wake up

Even this heart littered with wounds
Is healed by watching you
It's not about desire
I know this even unconsciously

The drug that heals my wound feels good
Where will we go tomorrow
I don't like it

Stain yourself by drowning in that blood

The dream and scattered stars
Which I saw with you day after day
I touch my hands to my chest and wish
That I please, please won't wake up

What is this tenderness?
It changes color every second
For a long, long time
Hold me with those hands, with love

Tempting complaints
Heal the wound

Eyes facing never-ending lands
What do they reflect?
Please, please hold me with those hands

As the hands of the clock overlap
I contemplate my inner ways
I touch my hands to my chest and wish
That I will never wake up

The dream and scattered stars
Which I saw with you day after day
I touch my hands to my chest and wish
That I please, please won't wake up

What is this tenderness?
It changes color every second
Forever and ever
Hold me with those hands, with love

100TC Week One: Master Bedroom

I live in a two story saltbox style house that was built in 1904. It also has a full basement. My roommate and I bought it in 2002 and have been updating/ remodeling it since. I believe it has taken us so long to finish most of the house projects because we have had to shuffle our 'stuff' from one room to another to actually get work done. By the time the room is clear for work, I'm ready for a break!

I decided to start my 100 Thing Challenge in the master bedroom on the second floor. This was originally my bedroom, but I moved into a smaller bedroom when we finished it. We decided to use this room as the hang out room/ office to keep the first floor clean (ha). It has also become the catch all room from the other rooms we are working on upstairs: sitting room and bathroom. This room is a good place to start because Dena and I are in it the majority of the time and to have a good clean place to rest will be an inspiration to continue. It will also be revisited in my challenge a couple more times as we complete the other rooms and convert it back to just the hang out space and not the temporary (kinda long term now) storage room.

I started on the office portion of this room last week. What household needs 5 boxes of staples, dozens of post-it note pads and hundreds of pens/ pencils? Oh, and the paper! I started through file boxes (that hadn't been opened in years) and found old bill statements, credit card applications to cards I don't have anymore and sale records of my old mobile home. Needless to say, the shredder has had quite a workout. Here are some of the more amusing things I found*:

During my first drafting job, I moved to the branch office in Lynnwood and the cleaning crew from Anacortes sent me a going away card.

The guys liked to put goofy things on my office door down there:

Every fall we try to have a family outing. Usually it's a drive around the short Cascade Loop to see the leaves changing. One year we did a corn maze...

The price sticker from the first brand new car I ever bought. I currently own my 4th Saturn. It's now an American Classic. sigh.

Probably the funniest find. The application for the first apartment I moved into. The first page is filled out by my mom and the second by my aunt. Yep, I was kicked out! :)

This letter was the best to receive. After 10 years, I finally paid off my student loan! It was the first loan I ever paid off and the first time I felt in control of my finances. It was my first victory getting out of credit bondage. (My dad was named on the loan, but I had to pay it off.)

Round one, done! Let's go!

*I don't intend to keep these documents physically or digitally. After posting, I will delete the files.

Start with Yourself

I found this tucked away in a file box I went through this morning. I thought it appropriate and worth sharing before tossing the paper in the recycle box.

The following words were written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in the Crypts of Westminster Abbey:

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.

As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it, too, seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realized: If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.

Dear Wynter,

No branches were harmed in de-lighting this tree...

and I beat the rain! :)
